AfroVibes International Artist Feature: KEMN

AfroVibes International continues to spotlight emerging and international talent shaping the global sound of Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Amapiano, and Dancehall. For this edition, we're highlighting KEMN, an artist bringing their unique voice and energy to the AfroVibes stage.

1. Who are you and where are you from? What should the AfroVibes International audience know about your background and music journey?

   My name is Kemn, I’m an artist from Nigeria based in the UK. My journey as a musician is rooted in my love for music which started when I was a child listening to the likes of Micheal Jackson, Bongos Ikwue, 2face, Sade Adu, Fela among so many others. I always loved how they sound different but could connect across borders. Today, my goal is to keep that culture alive through my music.

   
   

2. What inspired you to start making music, and how long have you been creating?

   My inspiration stems from so many great musicians, from the modern day Wizkid , Bnxn, Victony to the greats like Fela, Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, Bongos Ikwue. I hope to be the source of inspiration to the next generation and I’ve been making music on and off since my teens. 

   
   

3. How would you describe your sound or musical style, and what influences helped shape it?

   My style or genre is Afro-fusion and it stems from my experience with different cultures and their music.

   
   

4. AfroVibes International celebrates Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, Amapiano, and Dancehall. How do your music and influences connect with global or diaspora sounds?

   My music being deep rooted in afrobeats connects globally and I’m glad to be a part of the Afrovibes Family.

   
   

5. What is your creative process when writing or recording a new song?

   My creative process is sometimes calm, like when I'm on the beach. Sometimes it's chaotic like when I'm in traffic but one thing for sure is when the melody speaks, I listen. Most times, I find that the beauty is in the process. 

6. What message or feeling do you hope listeners take away from your music?

   I make songs, I desire to listen to and when people listen, I hope they enjoy it and it inspires them in some way or form. 

   
   

7. What has been one of the most important moments in your music career so far?

   This for me is a constant. Now, it is when I was in the studio creating my next single Sere which will be out in a few weeks and next will be when i create my next song, so watch out AfroVibes... there's more to come :)

   
   

8. What advice would you give to upcoming artists trying to build their careers today?

   Its simple. If you really enjoy and believe it, Do it.  The world will catch on when they do. Just Enjoy yourself my guy!
